Powerful science
This video is about the science of persuasion .It discusses six universal principles that can be used to influence people in an ethical way . The first principle is reciprocity . People are more likely to say yes to a request if they feel like they owe you something . For example, if a waiter gives you a mint after your meal, you are more likely to leave them a larger tip . The second principle is scarcity . People want things more when they are scarce . For example, if an airline announces that they are going to stop offering a particular flight, people are more likely to want to book a seat on that flight . The third principle is authority . People are more likely to follow the lead of someone they perceive as an expert . For example, a physiotherapist is more likely to be able to persuade a patient to comply with an exercise program if they display their medical diploma on the wall of their consulting room . The fourth principle is consistency [1]. People like to be consistent with the things they have already said or done [1]. For example, if someone agrees to place a small postcard in their window in support of a driving safety campaign, they are more likely to agree to erect a larger sign in their yard in support of the campaign . The fifth principle is liking . People are more likely to say yes to requests from people they like . For example, people are more likely to reach an agreement in a negotiation if they take some time to get to know the other person and find some common ground . The sixth principle is consensus . People are more likely to do something if they believe that other people are doing it . For example, if a hotel room card tells guests that 75% of guests reuse their towels, guests are more likely to reuse their towels as well .

Does anybody know the particular scientific experiments that were conducted and where to find information on those experiments? Some of these figures sound like survey numbers, so if it is from a survey does anybody know the particular survey or where to find the information on those surveys? I suppose I am appealing to the authority aspect of persuasion as I would like to believe that because Dr. Cialdini is educated he has authority, but it would be nice to know where he obtained the information he is using.
Scarcity - when we know life is near, then every minute, every action, is infinitely valuable. One possible cause is comparison. We don't see things in a vacuum or absolutely for it is, but only comparatively. Cold is only cold because we are warmer, but would feel warm if we were colder. Most of us think 40 years is a long time away. So what amount of time would seem short? For me, around 20 years.
